Fire Fighters responding to a structure fire in Carnegie, were inhibited by the lack of operational Aerial appliances available across Victoria.
Last week saw multiple Aerial Appliances taken out of commission across Victoria, leaving the community at risk.
This morning’s fire fight in Carnegie had to rely on a Teleboom arriving from Richmond, up to 20 minutes away.
The United Fire Fighters Union has consistently called for urgent action to be taken to ensure Melbourne’s South East is provided with Aerial Appliances to ensure Firefighters and our community are not left at unnecessary risk.
These calls continue to fall on deaf ears.
Fire Rescue Commissioner, Gavin Freeman, has a legislated responsibility to advocate in the community’s interest. Instead, he is too busy attacking Fire Fighters safety conditions in the workplace.
Who will bear responsibility when there is a tragedy that is foreseeable and preventable?
Will Commissioner Freeman be holding a hose?
